Wedding Videography in Almaty

Cinematic wedding films shot on ZCAM cinema cameras, capturing the spirit of Kazakh celebrations since 2008

We recently switched our wedding coverage to ZCAM E2 S6 cinema cameras, recording in 10-bit Apple ProRes at up to 6K. Earlier weddings on this site were shot in 8-bit, so if you are browsing older portfolio pieces, keep in mind our current footage looks noticeably cleaner in low light and holds up much better in color grading. Audio is recorded separately on ZOOM F3 and H5 recorders at 32-bit float, so a loud toi hall or an outdoor ceremony with wind does not turn into a problem during editing.

TVC Studios has been filming weddings in Almaty since 2008. Over the years we have shot more than 2000 projects across the city and Almaty region, from small civil ceremonies at the local ZAGS to full scale multi day celebrations with several hundred guests. A Kazakh wedding rarely fits into one event. There is often a separate registration, sometimes a kyz uzatu or a betashar, and then the toi itself, which can run for hours with a completely different rhythm from a Western reception. We plan the shoot around that structure instead of forcing a Western style timeline onto it.

Cameras and lenses

We shoot on ZCAM E2 S6 cinema cameras with a Super 35 sensor, paired with cinema lenses rather than standard photo glass. This combination gives a shallower depth of field and cleaner performance in the low, warm lighting typical of Almaty banquet halls, where a lot of consumer cameras struggle. The wider dynamic range also means we can recover detail in a bright window behind the bride or a dim side room during the beshik toi without the footage falling apart in post.

4K and 6K resolution

All weddings are recorded in 4K as standard, with 6K available on request for couples who want more room to reframe in editing or plan to project the film on a large screen. At 4K you get roughly four times the resolution of Full HD, which matters most in wide shots of the hall, group dances, and any footage you might want to crop into a vertical version for social media later without losing sharpness.

Apple ProRes and 10-bit color

We record and edit in 10-bit Apple ProRes, which stores about 1.07 billion colors compared to roughly 16 million in standard 8-bit video. In practical terms this means skin tones hold up under mixed lighting, gradients in the sky or in soft studio backdrops do not band, and there is real room to grade the footage rather than just correct it. Color grading is done in DaVinci Resolve, usually starting from a Kodak film emulation base and adjusted scene by scene depending on the venue.

Shooting in Almaty

Almaty gives a wedding film a backdrop most cities cannot offer. Couples often use the hour before the toi for a short walk with the camera, whether that is the Zailiyskiy Alatau foothills, the older streets near Panfilov Park, or a rooftop with the mountains in the background. We know the light at different times of year in these spots and plan the walk around it rather than showing up and hoping for good conditions.

Pre wedding sessions

Some couples book a separate pre wedding shoot a few weeks or months before the wedding itself, usually to get a set of photos and a short video they can use for invitations or simply to have something more relaxed than the wedding day allows. These sessions run at a slower pace, with more time for locations and outfit changes, and the footage is often folded into the opening of the final wedding film.
